FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Commercial Structure Fire
Trefzger’s Bakery – 4416 N Prospect Rd
At approximately 11:26pm, our department was notified of a fire alarm activation at Trefzger’s Bakery covering both smoke detectors and waterflow sensors consistent with a sprinkler head activation. While en-route to the scene, personnel were advised by the Peoria Heights Police Department that there appeared to be active fire on the first floor of the building.
Peoria Heights Command 2 (the department’s deputy chief) was first to arrive on scene and found active fire in a first floor prep area between the storefront and kitchen areas. Engine 653 arrived on scene shortly after and stretched lines inside to extinguish the fire, containing the fire damage to the initial fire room. The sprinkler system activated as designed and is contributed to helping to slow the spread of the fire. Total estimated time elapsed from the time of initial dispatch to the time the fire was declared under control was approximately 15 minutes.
Firefighters from the Peoria IL Fire Department, West Peoria Fire Department, and Chillicothe, IL Fire Department provided assistance with search, ventilation, and overhaul operations while Limestone Township Fire Protection District personnel remained available in our district to cover additional calls. Personnel from Advanced Medical Transport were also available should any injuries occur on scene. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire has been declared accidental at this time.
